Jack Vale is trying to live quietly.

As the strike deepens, Jack is forced to balance decency against disappearance - to stand with others without being taken, named, or returned to a past he cannot afford to revisit. The law watches patiently. It always has.

Set against the real events of the UK miners' strike, The Wretched is set in northern England and written from lived experience. It is a novel about work, dignity, surveillance, and the long consequences of political decisions - not just during the strike, but in the years that followed.
