String theory in physics puts forth the idea that everything in the universe - matter, light, energy - are not comprised of atoms or single point particles, but tiny vibrating strings. The theory attempts to unite Einstein's general relativity with quantum mechanics. But what if there were people who had already learned about these vibrating strings and had also learned ways to manipulate these strings using unique Songs? This is the basic premise behind WorldSinger Book One: Timeline.

Music is Conall Berrigan's passion and his career. But he is astounded when Wallace Scully, Conall's lifelong musical mentor, reveals that there is more to music than just notes and melodies. The old man belongs to a secret organization of Singers - adepts who use Song to manipulate the very nature of the universe.

A forty-year-old professional musician in Los Angeles, Conall enjoys performing with his band and giving private music lessons to aspiring guitar players. One night after a performance, Wallace demonstrates his power to Conall as a prelude to asking Conall to again become his student, this time as an apprentice Singer. Wallace instantly transports them from a highway in central Los Angeles to Conall's home in Pasadena. Conall feels like he's gone completely down the rabbit hole when Scully manipulates energy strings to create objects and make them disappear.

However, Conall quickly learns that Singing is not simply a parlor trick. Wallace tells Conall that skilled Singers can change not only space, but time - that history can be changed by a powerful enough Singer. Conall learns that there are two groups of Singers - one, to which Wallace belongs, that is committed to preventing changes to the timeline and the other dedicated to altering history to suit their goals. After agreeing to become Wallace's apprentice, Conall finds that learning to Sing is just the first step that takes him into a world of intrigue and danger. There are more forces in play than even Wallace and his fellow Singers realize, some of which threaten not only their lives but the entire history of humanity.
