Woodfill of the Regulars

"Woodfill of the Regulars: A True Story of Adventure From the Arctic to the Argonne" tells the extraordinary life story of Samuel Woodfill, whom General John J. Pershing famously described as the greatest single hero of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. Written by the renowned journalist Lowell Thomas, this narrative follows Woodfill's storied career in the United States Army, beginning with his early service in the American West and his experiences during grueling Arctic patrols in Alaska.

The heart of the work focuses on Woodfill's harrowing exploits on the Western Front, particularly his actions during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which earned him the Medal of Honor. Through meticulous detail, Thomas captures the bravery, tactical skill, and relentless determination that defined Woodfill's service. This book serves as both a thrilling military adventure and a significant historical document, offering readers an intimate perspective on the "Old Regulars" and the evolution of the American military in the early 20th century. It remains a powerful tribute to one of America's most decorated soldiers, illustrating the grit and character required on the front lines of global conflict.
