Won by the Divine Eagle

The reference to "Eagle" (Won by the Divine Eagle) was initially inspired by J.-P. de Caussade's "Let us soar like an eagle above these clouds, with our eyes fixed on the sun..." But the main inspiration derives from the heart of St. Thérèse. For many strive for holiness through various acts of prayer, mortification, and charity, but do not realize that for our destiny of mystical union "only one thing is necessary": surrender to Love, to be captured like St. Thérèse by the divine Eagle:
"There is only one thing for Thérèse to do; to offer herself as a holocaust to this Love, to let herself be won and carried off by the "eternal Eagle," to fly "on the winds of the divine Eagle to the eternal furnace in the bosom of the blessed Trinity".... The soul is able to love and save other souls by bringing the eternal love within it to fruition..." (Jean Mouroux)
This fifth volume complements Mystical Incarnation's focus on our sharing in Christ's sonship with our mystical union with Christ (His Body and Bride respectively), but practically through a collection of homilies, retreat conferences, aids, and counsels. Both dimensions are synthesized in von Balthasar's Marian Principle, with Mary, the New Eve, mirroring the Son's receptivity and expropriation before the Father, allowing the Trinitarian summum of love to descend through her to the world.
