When the Wind Chimes Sing

Retirement is nothing like Troy Burkhalter had imagined. Living alone in northwest Arkansas, Troy misses his deceased wife and their two adult children, Brody and Britney, who moved away to live their own self-absorbed lives while squandering their trust funds. Troy makes the best of his lonesome lifestyle, his only companion his talking parrot.

One day, without warning, Brody shows up broke and homeless with two dogs, followed by a distraught and tearful Britney. When it becomes clear that the two plan to stay, at least for a while, Troy cautiously but sternly advises them on how to get their lives back on track. Meanwhile, he learns that he has been named the defendant in a lawsuit brought on by an unscrupulous, relentless woman, causing further upset.

As the three adults awkwardly attempt to cohabitate as a family, Troy struggles to accept that his role as head of the house has been redefined. This heartwarming story moves at a fast pace with amusing dialogue apropos of the generation gap. And, despite Troy's gruff and no-nonsense disposition, the ways in which he shows his love for his children becomes the very strength and essence of the story.
