When I Was Blind

This book chronicles Randy Wechter's traumatic childhood growing up without a mother and her journey as an adult into blindness. The support of family and friends saw her through hundreds of doctors' appointments and major medical treatments along the way. At the Braille Institute, she adjusted to life as a blind person, but it was always difficult to accept that it was really happening. There was too much life to live, and she believed that she would somehow see again.

Years later, Randy suffered a small stroke. Against all odds, it was a stroke of good luck. Doctors still don't know how or why, but her vision returned in one eye. Everyone called it a miracle, and that wasn't the only miracle.

Despite the years of blindness, she is grateful for the firsthand experience of the challenges facing those with vision loss. It has motivated her to dedicate the rest of her life to work toward cures for blindness and low vision. She wants to inspire others to believe in the power of a strong spirit to achieve their dreams and goals, no matter what the challenges are. There is always hope!
