Mags's friend, Mary Lou, wants help tracing her family connection to the legendary Black jockey, Jimmy Winkfield, who won back-to-back Derbies in 1901 and 1902, before he was forced to go to Europe. Robert Barrington, a wealthy horseman, wants family birth records.
Simple requests. But led by her Second Sight, Mags uncovers a tangle of secrets and lies. Suddenly, last year's tragic fire at Barrington Farm looks suspicious. She stumbles upon an illegal AI-scheme to fix racing outcomes. A murder rattles the backside, and Mags finds herself piecing together clues no one else wants to see. With Derby crowds swelling and tempers running hot, she must rely on her wits, her research skills, and the loyal circle of friends who always have her back.
