A US based, internationally acting pharmaceutical company called ToxThera introduces a novel hypertensive drug called NoxTox. The drug is advertised as being a groundbreaking innovation. Unless the price of the drug is much higher than existing ones, the pharmaceutical producer invests into a extremely costly marketing campaign. Bribing physicians, manipulating science on a large scale and even influencing the approval procedure, are part of this strategy aswell.

ToxThera initially achieves high sales. Suddenly, however, severe side effects occur no one had anticipated. Cases of severe side effects and deaths are reported from across the country. The situation escalates into a national catastrophe. The fight for people's lives begins.

The author, Roland Holtz, worked in sales and marketing in the pharmaceutical industry for well over 20 years. Thanks to his additional training in data processing, he also dealt with issues of strategic marketing in the pharmaceutical industry. In this novel, he summarizes his experiences, also to show why the opioid crisis and other drug crises have reached such enormous proportions and how they came about.
