This study investigates into the translation procedures as applied by Modupé Bodé-Thomas, a Nigerian female translator, in translating Mariama Ba's Une Si Longue Lettre into English. It aims at identifying the translation procedures used in the novel as well as the problems they reflect, pointing out the most dominant translation procedure and explaining the reason behind the predominant occurrence of that procedure. The findings reveal that the translator resorted to borrowing, literal translation, modulation, and transposition. The most dominant translation procedure is modulation whose use involves in restructuring the ST expressions and terms whose literal translation produces awkward, unnatural, unsuitable, or unidiomatic in English. This helps EFL teachers apply the results in terms of teaching materials in translation classes.
