Tommy Bancroft was woken abruptly by his alarm clock which was ringing loudly right by his ear. His head was pounding, he had drunk late into the night and this hangover was one of the worst he had ever had. He did not even attempt to open his eyes for a good five minutes, he just lay there in his bed all dazed and disoriented. When Tommy did finally open his eyes, he saw that he had spent the night with a local girl he knew called Violet Bridges. Violet had always had a crush on Tommy, and he had always known it. Violet was stunningly beautiful with luscious reflective brown hair which flowed down her back, and she had great big striking blue eyes. Many of the other boys in the village had eyes for Violet but ever since they had first met Violet only ever had eyes for one man, Tommy. With Tommy set to take off the next morning to join the Allied war effort Violet had taken her chance and told Tommy how she felt about him. She had poured her heart out to Tommy telling him that "he was the love of her life" and "she wanted to spend her life growing old with him". It had taken her years to build up the courage to do this and confess her feelings to him. Under the influence of about fifteen pints of local ale Tommy had reciprocated her feelings. He liked Violet, she was beautiful and intelligent, but he had no idea about how serious her feelings for him were. He racked his brain, but he had absolutely no recollection of the previous evening at all.
