Astrid in the past. Axl in Limbo. The world renting itself apart 700 years before Astrid was even born, and now she was supposed to fix it? Even as he watched, the necromancer knew he'd made a mistake. He knew it was wrong to send her to her death on that battlefield. As she fought her way toward the body of the woman he... once... loved, he could see the ill-fated futility of it all. If Eclipse was meant to die, saving her would change the future, Astrid's future. Astrid may not be here to save her if that future changed, and all would fade back to what it once was, with Eclipse dying anyway. Axl knew the consequences of meddling with time. He knew the power of his magic and the grip it held on the universe. He knew how important it was for him to protect the natural way of things as the reigning Time Warden, no matter the cost. He knew.
And he didn't care.
