Alfred's life was normal, idyllic even, without all the insults darkening every surface through which he views the world.

An immigrant seeks work, and Alfred sees an enemy. Consumed by paranoia and guided by fear, Alfred's war lands the Mexican in prison. All should return to normal...

But it doesn't. He knows he's going mad and the insults are truths.

He senses his sanity fraying further when his teenage daughter expects him to free the man he's wronged, never suspecting that he had instigated it.

Then, the unimaginable happens. His wife dies, and he must care for his daughter when he can't even care for himself.

Could he have been wrong about the words all along? Because surely, one man alone couldn't have scrawled every insult on his glasses and windows and convinced the world to deny seeing the messages. Were the words ever even real?
