In the suffocating heat of a 1985 summer, Misty Falls is a town suffocated by boredom and unspoken rules. For Ethan, Sarah, and Becks, the neon glow of the local arcade isn't enough to drown out the monotony. seeking a thrill, they defy Sarah's grandmother's terrifying folklore and cross the Green Line-the forbidden boundary separating their safe suburbia from the ancient, sprawling Whispering Woods. They step into the shade looking for adventure, but they immediately find an oppressive silence and a sentient, predatory presence that tastes their fear.

When the trio wakes up on the roadside with no memory of how they escaped, they think the nightmare is over. They are wrong. Becks has returned changed, wearing a terrifyingly serene smile and emitting a faint, bioluminescent glow. As Ethan watches his familiar world begin to rot and warp-with garden plants pulsing like organs and static on the phone whispering of *hunger*-he realizes the woods didn't let them go; it used them as vessels. Now, a parasitic infection is spreading through Misty Falls, and Ethan has only days to sever the connection before the town, and everyone in it, becomes food for the forest.
