The Way Forward

Scott Townsend felt himself falling in love for the first time in a very long time. He had resigned himself to the belief that no truly genuine woman of integrity existed. That was until he met Rita. She was a unicorn. And she seemed to be smitten with him as well. Rita checked all the right boxes. The only question that remained; would she withstand the constant torment being wheeled by Scotty's ex-wife, Letitia.

Letitia had become predictable in her antics over the years. Typically finding some way to manipulate their daughter, Rochelle, to gain access into her father's world. To Scotty, fame and fortune were biproducts of a life lived intentionally. To Letitia, fame and fortune were all that matter. And she was willing do whatever it takes to get and keep it.

Some people go through life desperately trying to get what they lacked in childhood. They somehow believe that they were entitled to better. And that it is now owed to them. Scotty and his younger brother, Frankie, grew up as wards of the State of Texas. They lived in an orphanage governed by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. They never knew their parents or any other family. Despite their loss, the two men created a family from what they were given. Each of the brothers making a solemn promise to God to reach back and pull anyone up that needed a hand if they were able.

Family isn't always defined by a DNA test. Sometimes family is simply defined as a group of two or more people holding each other above the surface as they wade together with a common goal to reach the shore. Scotty Townsend is not a superhero. He wears finely tailored suits instead of capes. And gives reverence to God in every aspect of his life.

At 71 years young, Scotty reminds us that you are as young as you feel. And, yes, age IS just a number. But all platitudes aside, he also reminds us that romance does not have an expiration or best by date. Perhaps, if you take a page from this book you will come to believe as I do. True romance is a mature man's game.
