In the darkest age of Britain, a boy was born in secrecy and hidden from his own birthright. Years later, he returned to draw a sword from the stone and bring the kingdom back from chaos.
Based on Thomas Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, this retelling preserves the original plots and the strange, compelling spirit of the source, while it also reveals the inner lives of the characters that medieval prose left unspoken. This is not a simplified version of Arthurian legends, but connected tales told in prose that is atmospheric yet accessible, each tale given the depth it deserves.
In this first volume:
- The secret of Arthur's birth, and the day a hidden boy became a king
- Merlin's bargains, mysteries, and his final doom
- The tragedy of Balin and his cursed sword
- The gaining of Excalibur and the founding of the Round Table
- Morgana le Fay's first schemes against Camelot
- Gawain's legendary encounter with the Green Knight
The printed version features 10 full-page illustrations by Rozálie Lánová.
For readers who love mythic atmosphere, high moral stakes, and characters whose fates still haunt us a thousand years later.
