Four countries, 77 cities, 86 days, and 2,065 kilometres on foot. These impressive numbers objectively express the magnitude of the journey narrated in this book.
Marcos Bulcao, a philosopher by training and, somewhat paradoxically, also passionate about sports and adventures, decided, after completing his PhD in philosophy, to embark on a grand walk similar to the Camino de Santiago, which he had undertaken years before. While researching the best way to accomplish the route, originally conceived from London to Athens, he discovered the Via Francigena, a much less known and explored European pilgrimage route. Starting in England, crossing France and the Swiss Alps, and finally reaching Rome, it was a journey of 2,000 kilometres over about three months of walking.
The Philosopher Pilgrim is the final result of this incredible project, illustrated with numerous maps and beautiful photographs of the visited regions. The book also provides valuable tips on physical and logistical preparation, financial investment, and the necessary equipment for the journey.
With a captivating narrative filled with historical and cultural curiosities, this work delights us with the accounts of a pilgrim interested in testing his limits to know the world, its people, and their stories; of a philosopher in search of understanding about life and himself; and finally, of an author willing to share with readers the results of so many wonderful discoveries.
Published by Editora Record, one of the largest Brazilian publishers, the book has achieved great success, with nearly 3,000 copies sold.
