The Philosophy of Personalism

"The Philosophy of Personalism. A Study in the Metaphysics of Religion" is a comprehensive exploration of one of the most influential philosophical perspectives of the early twentieth century. Written by Albert C. Knudson, a central figure in the development of personalistic thought, this work offers a systematic defense of the view that personhood is the fundamental category for understanding reality. The text meticulously traces the historical origins of personalism and contrasts it with competing systems such as materialism and absolute idealism.

Knudson's study is particularly focused on the metaphysical implications of personalism for the philosophy of religion. He examines how a personalistic worldview provides a robust framework for understanding the nature of God, the reality of the self, and the possibility of moral freedom. By engaging with both classical philosophy and contemporary scientific thought of his era, Knudson constructs a compelling argument for the internal consistency and explanatory power of personalism. This volume serves as an essential text for those seeking to understand the intersection of metaphysics and theology, offering deep insights into the intellectual history of religious philosophy.
