The Name It Wore

Every piece of evidence says suicide. But before he died, Dr. Everett Halvern wrote Detective Mara Calehart's name.

When the respected psychiatrist is found hanging in the foyer of his home, the evidence indicates that he acted alone. There are no signs of forced entry, no unidentified fingerprints, and no physical evidence of a killer.

But Halvern left something behind.

Hidden beneath a glass paperweight is a handwritten warning that names Mara and points toward a secret buried inside the Dorravell Institute for Behavioral Medicine.

Mara refuses to dismiss the message as coincidence. With her partner, Detective Owen Keir, and Captain Alden Grayson supporting the investigation, she begins reconstructing Halvern's final days. Their search uncovers concealed records, unexplained deaths, disturbing psychological research, and the history of an abandoned psychiatric ward someone wanted forgotten.

The deeper they investigate, the less certain they become about the people-and voices-around them.

Familiar voices deliver impossible messages. Fear becomes a weapon. Someone may be manipulating the investigation, but the evidence suggests something far more dangerous: a presence capable of learning a person's deepest fears, borrowing the voice of someone they trust, and wearing the identities of the dead.

If something can look and sound like someone you know, how can you be certain who is speaking?

To uncover the truth behind Halvern's death, Mara and Owen must determine whether they are hunting a calculating human manipulator, confronting a supernatural presence, or facing something that has learned how to use one against the other.

It does not need to force its way inside.

It only needs someone to answer.
