The Midnight Cabaret

Berlin, 1927. The music is loud, the champagne flows, and the Republic is bleeding.

Inspector Viktor Brandt of the Berlin Kriminalpolizei is a cynical veteran who has survived the trenches of the Somme and the crippling hyperinflation of the Weimar Republic. But when a prominent investigative journalist is found shot to death in the infamous Der Blaue Engel cabaret, Brandt realizes he is dealing with a crime that goes far beyond a simple mugging. The journalist's notebook-containing explosive evidence of a treasonous conspiracy-is missing.

Leni Fischer, the cabaret's resilient star singer, was the last person to speak to the victim. When the killers come for her, she is forced into a desperate alliance with the weary inspector.

Together, Brandt and Leni must navigate a treacherous labyrinth of corrupt police commissioners, ruthless paramilitary enforcers, and aristocratic warmongers. From the soot-choked freight yards of Schöneberg to the glittering, decadent masquerades of the Wannsee elite, they are racing against the clock. Baron von Falkenhausen is secretly importing military-grade artillery to arm a shadow army, and he is only days away from burning the fragile democratic government to the ground.

Armed with nothing but a stolen luggage ticket, a heavy Walther pistol, and a theatrical gown, Brandt and Leni are the only ones left to hold the line.
