The Megaverse

Turning sixteen is a significant milestone in the Megaverse, which is an augmented secondary computer world governed by the world's most intelligent AI. On their sixteenth birthday, individuals select an avatar, a new super-strong and super-attractive veneer that will serve socially as their new body and face. There is no ugliness, sickness, disease, or flaws in this perfect digital world. Everything is beautiful. Everything is pretty. What's left of humanity exists connected to this world, saved from extinction after a final nuclear war and collapsed climate. The Earth is ruined, over-heated, poisoned, irradiated - hostile - yet below the sea in vast underwater cities, the survivors live on. In one such city, it is Jason's, son of Eso, birthday, and it's time for him to choose his new avatar and embark on his adult life.
