The Life and Martyrdom of Polycarp

"Eighty and six years I have served Him, and He has done me no wrong." These were Polycarp's final words before martyrdom-words that still echo with strength, hope, and uncompromising devotion.

Two of the earliest Christian texts, united in one essential volume-experience the powerful faith of a disciple who walked with the Apostles.

Epistle of Polycarp to the Philippians & Martyrdom of Polycarp brings together the only surviving letter from Polycarp, bishop of Smyrna, and the dramatic eyewitness account of his death-offering a profound glimpse into the courage, devotion, and theological clarity of the early church.

Polycarp was a direct disciple of the Apostle John and a central figure in the generation after the original Apostles. In his Epistle to the Philippians, he addresses pressing moral concerns, encourages perseverance under persecution, and defends orthodox Christian doctrine. His tone is pastoral, clear, and deeply rooted in the New Testament writings.

The Martyrdom of Polycarp is among the earliest and most vivid accounts of Christian martyrdom outside the New Testament. It tells the gripping story of Polycarp's arrest, trial, and ultimate execution by fire in the Roman arena-highlighting his calm bravery, unwavering faith, and defiant witness before hostile powers.
