As world peace is threatened in the year 2066, veteran scientist Charlie Nash and his team from Lawrence Livermore Lab begin work on a weapon to counter the doomsday device under construction in northern China. Targeting key Chinese officials, the weapon, a high energy particle collider machine dubbed Project AION, is designed to transport assassins through worm holes to alternate universes where they stealthily track down and eliminate the targets in future-time ambushes. But when it's brought online, Nash's dread and warnings of its potential consequences appear justified when unprecedented, potentially universe-ending cosmic events start unfolding.
