Three bodies are recovered in the Niagara River below
the Falls by Canadian Authorities. Possibly murdered.
They were young American men who had low draft lottery
numbers. They may have been dodging military service
by emigrating to Canada. Two hundred a month did the
same, rather than serving in Vietnam. Detective Tom
Baldwin and Officer Samantha Simpson are charged
with finding the link between the three and ending the
killing spree. But they have to maneuver carefully
around an ambivalent FBI, the local mafia, super-patriots
in a veterans group, a vengeful parent, and a radical
antiwar faction, all with their own agenda.
This is Larry Elin's second crime novel featuring Tom
Baldwin, James Plishka and Sam Simpson of the
Lackawanna, NY, Police Department. The Cinder Drop
received critical acclaim from Kirkus Reviews and five-
star ratings from readers. The Falls is right on par.
The author spent 24 years in the entertainment industry
and 20 more teaching writing and film production
at Syracuse University.
