In this novel, we follow Élise, a determined woman from Cité Soleil, a poor neighborhood in Haiti. The tale explores the origins of the gang leaders and their growing rivalry, culminating in a kidnapping and ransom negotiation. Élise, kidnapped by Tikuyèfè, suffers at the hands of her captors. Her friends raise the ransom, and Lanmôdéjou, seeking redemption, saves her. The novel takes a tragic turn with the death of Élise caused by the betrayal of Lanmôdéjou's wife, who is judged during a voodoo ceremony. The community mourns Élise, but her legacy lives on through the completed school. This moving story addresses resilience, hope and the power of education in the face of violence. Set in one of Haiti's poorest neighborhoods, the novel captures human strength and unbreakable bonds of friendship, even in the face of adversity.
