The Disappearing Lantern

Jake Cadden's magical black rock is glowing again-and this time, it carries him to a town that is vanishing into the fog.

The Great Lantern has disappeared from its tower, leaving the town of Glimmerwick without the magical light that protects it. One by one, the smaller lanterns are going dark. Buildings are fading away, shadowy creatures are creeping through the streets, and soon the entire town may disappear.

With Milo, a young lamplighter, at his side, Jake follows a trail of glowing oil into the Vanishing Woods. There, paths move without warning and fog creatures imitate the voices of people Jake trusts. Their search eventually leads them to Finn, a boy with a magical compass-and a missing father.

To restore the Great Lantern, the boys must enter a dark abandoned mine, escape creatures that feed on light, and find their way home before Glimmerwick disappears forever. But Jake's habit of rushing ahead may place everyone in even greater danger.

Filled with magical lanterns, shifting forests, mysterious creatures, friendship, and suspenseful escapes, The Disappearing Lantern is an exciting chapter-book adventure for readers ages 7-10.
