The Burning Call

In the frozen depths of the north, some legends don't die. They just wait.

For young student Daniel Scott, an elk hunting trip with his uncle in the Minnesota woods was supposed to be an adventure, an encounter with the wilderness he had only read about in books. But when the hunt proves fruitless, the group splits up, and Daniel is sent east under the care of Joseph Dubois, a seasoned and enigmatic guide haunted by secrets the forest refuses to forget.

The journey takes them to the desolate Whispering Pines Lake, a place the natives avoid, where the silence is heavy and watchful. It is there that Dubois's fear reveals itself, and an ancient name is whispered around the campfire: Wendigo.

When an inhuman voice calls through the darkness and Dubois vanishes in an explosion of terror and ecstasy, Daniel is left alone to decipher the impossible trail left in the snow: human footprints alongside those of a monstrous creature, tracks that transform and then simply vanish into thin air.

The Burning Call is a descent into madness and primordial horror. A survival story that explores the thin line between reason and fear, where the greatest danger is not the monster that hunts in the forest, but the part of man that yearns to answer its call.
