The British in Tropical Africa

"The British in Tropical Africa an Historical Outline" provides a comprehensive survey of the expansion and administrative development of the British Empire across the African continent. Author Ifor L. Evans traces the historical trajectory of British influence, offering a detailed overview of the political, economic, and social structures established within various tropical territories during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The work examines the distinct regions under British control, including the dependencies in West Africa, the territories of East Africa, and the Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. Evans explores the motivations behind imperial involvement, the specific methods of colonial governance employed, and the evolving relationship between the British administration and indigenous populations. By synthesizing the complex history of these diverse regions, the text provides a clear outline of how the British presence shaped the geopolitical landscape of the tropics.

It serves as an important resource for readers interested in imperial history, the development of modern African states, and the legacy of British colonial policy in the region.
