Saoirse Brennan reluctantly returns to her grandmother's house in the remote Irish village of Kilrowan after receiving a mysterious letter about settling the estate. Having fled twelve years earlier for the certainty of London's rational world, she finds herself drawn back into the village's dark folklore-particularly the tragic tale of Cillian and Maeve, forbidden lovers separated by fire and family cruelty in 1847.
