The darkness had a history. They were about to find it.

The answer will take them into Bell County's deepest history - pre-statehood records, a friar's covenant, and a Tonkawa territorial mark that says this place belongs to the God above all gods.

As Wren inherits Carmen's prayer route and walks it into new territory, Eugene Tran - a retired engineer who has been quietly watching his block for eleven years - finally joins the work. A Baylor historian translates the ancient document. Deke Pruitt prepares to do the one thing only a Pruitt can do: stand on the ground his ancestor cursed and close the door his family opened four generations ago.

And James Park - Lily's father, the structural engineer who has been watching from the back wall - finally speaks. What he says changes how the group understands everything.
