In 1155 BCE the New Kingdom of Egypt was in its 20th Dynasty, ruled by Ramesses III. The once great hero of the battles against the Sea Peoples was now in his mid-sixties, and plagued with figuring out how to preserve his legacy. Twenty years of bad weather has led to crop failures, famines, and widespread labor strikes. To the south, there is fear that Kush could overthrow the weakened kingdom, but Ramesses is more at risk from scandals within his own palace walls. The royal harem swirls with rumors of illegitimate children, favorite wives, secret lovers, and less than admirable ties to witchcraft. Tesamun, a new servant to the royal household from the striking class, is having immense difficulty navigating the shifting sands in Thebes while she is instantly embraced by some and repelled by others. Her good favor amongst Ramesses catches her in the middle of the striker unrest while trying to remain loyal to her people and her pharaoh. Will Tesamun be lucky enough to keep her head up through the confusion?
