The title SUPERINTELLIGENCE BLUEPRINT 2030 expresses a concern about power. A useful tool can become a source of dependence when people cannot understand its decisions, move their information elsewhere, or question the terms under which they use it. That concern grows when the same organizations influence the software, the infrastructure, and the channels through which customers gain access. The practical question is how to preserve meaningful choices while developing technology that can help us.
I also want to give the physical world its proper place in this conversation. Computing requires equipment and electricity. Equipment requires manufacturing, materials, and maintenance. Facilities need cooling, and communities must live with the consequences of where and how those facilities are built. Calling something digital does not remove those obligations.
The eight-level route used in this book connects users and model companies to materials, semiconductor manufacturing, data centers, skilled labor, electricity, and water. Each level has its own problems. Together they reveal how a constraint far from the screen can affect the service on it. A powerful model cannot make an unfinished electrical connection ready for use. An announcement about future capacity cannot substitute for equipment that has actually been installed.
