The Russell Protocol can never be changed...or can it?

The world is underwater. What's left of humanity lives on floating stations, boats or the small remnants of land. How this happened is lost to history in the long-ago times known only as the Dark 100. To help rebuild a genetically diverse species, the ruling family, the Blooms, instituted the Russell Protocol which assigns each person in the Realm to a partner at the age of twenty-one on a day known as Match Day.

Cali Shoreland has lived her entire life at sea at Wellington Station, an aging research station in the Oceania Sector. She expects to be matched to another commoner and to live a quiet life conducting her scientific research.

Diana Talbot is a member of the nobility and has lived her entire life on land in Matterhorn City. Due to an unknown favor her father did for the king, she's been promised to be matched to the prince from the time she was five years old. She's spent her entire life preparing to be a royal.

But when Match Day comes, it is Cali who is matched with the prince and not Diana. Now each young woman must navigate a new path they never planned on while the seeds of unrest begin to brew in the Realm.
