Star Watch Case Company, The Baumgartner Collection, 1904-1931

This first edition of the Baumgartner Collection, rendered in color, comprehensively catalogs Friedrich Alexander Baumgartner's watch case engraving designs from his 27-year tenure as a senior member of the Star Watch Case Company Engraving Department from 1904 to 1931. The compilation presents 3,474 watch case etching designs, offering a unique glimpse into Star Watch case offerings, and Baugmartner's drawing techniques. The collection has been methodically arranged, and indexed to serve as a valuable resource for enthusiasts and serious collectors alike, as well as researchers, historians, and horologists, who will gain a renewed appreciation for the intricacy and craftsmanship involved in watch case design. Enthusiasts and collectors will appreciate the two indices: one that catalogs designs by theme (e.g., birds, botanical, cabins, eagles, elk and deer, dogs, women, etc.), period (e.g., Renaissance), case shape (e.g., pentagon, octagonal, or cushion), and production year; and another that lists all cases in the collection and provides transcribed notes, when available, for each case drawing. The collection is a valuable tool for horological research of Star Watch cases and secures Baumgartner's reputation as a distinguished American watch case artist and engraver.
