July 1, 1969 was the start of a new recording era post-miserable Let It Be, while on July 1, 1997, Hong Kong started its new era with it reversion to China. On July 7, 1969, George Harrison comes up with the idea for Here Comes the Sun in Clapton's sunny garden. On July 7, 1997, I have song title ideas on a beautiful 72-degree summer day, "Then and There", "Right Here and Now". On July 7, 2010, I had a dream about Eric Clapton performing at Orchestra Hall in Chicago. On July 9, 1987, Keith Haring is in Paris, and 10 years later on July 9, 1997, I journaled, "Keith Haring art in N.Y. subways, "Pop Shop" sells souvenirs. Keith died of AIDS 10 years ago [2/16/1990]. His estate is worth $25 million! He's now in the Whitney Museum and has had his journals published." On July 12, 2021, I did a podcast episode titled, Does music have anything to do with climate change?, and on July 12, 2022, I was commenting about Roger Waters' current tour, and I riffed, "imagery of desiccating lakes and the world ablaze, as if the red we have associated with high temperatures makes it appear that the entire mid-latitude is a Coriolis of fire. It's all seductive in its delectable ways." So I answered my question again: music does have something in common with it. On July 20, 2002, I went to see the film Road to Perdition, and on July 20,2012, I was reflecting on the theater massacre in Aurora, Colorado and wrote, "It is ironic that the expression "something you'd see in a movie" has turned into something that jumps off the screen or through the entrance, or even perhaps through the Fourth Wall." On July 26, 1896, William James writes to Mrs. James about the beautiful day yesterday spent at the Celeron resort in New York, while on July 26, 1943, Anne Frank writes: ""Yesterday was a very tumultuous day, and we're still all wound up....The first warning siren went off in the morning while we were at breakfast, but we paid no attention because it only meant that the planes were crossing the coast."

Some July also provides keen insight into the philosophy of creation, particularly in the age of automation. The book introduces the author's practice of finding musical ideas through language and rhythms (a process called "Songday" or "Songdrums"), and the diary itself is the main wellspring for musical ideas and topics. The diaries in some sense are "albums".
