After a radical AI neural experiment went wrong, a monster was born.

Before he was stopped, Austin burned and the global markets collapsed. Humanity's greatest fear was that it could happen again. 

When life-support systems in hospitals across the nation suddenly fail, killing hundreds, the cyberattack bears the monster Charlie Moore's unmistakable signature. It can mean only one thing: The monster is back-this time seemingly as a sentient ghost in the machine.

Miles from civilization with only a tent and a dog, Zach Axton is barely surviving. But isolation is better than watching the people he loves die. To stop the rogue genius Charlie Moore and save Austin, Axton had to become the very thing he hunted. Abandoning his team, walking away from his best friend-and the woman he loved-was the only way to protect them.

Axton is the only man who can understand the monsters-and one way or another, he will be rejoining his old team.
