Mentoring and discipling people used to be a very common element in the human experience and still is in some older cultures, but often in our modern and fast paced Western rhythms, we seem to have lost this important practice. In spite of so many great thinkers, authors and Christian apologists speaking so openly in favor of this and also, so many strong scriptural statements directing us to engage with people this way, we still tend to avoid discipling like the plague. I would even hazard to say that many people barely understand what discipling someone might actually look like and I have spoken to many grown adults who absolutely do not feel qualified to do such a thing.
