Rooted

Humanity has always longed for something greater than ourselves. We want to know the deeper truths of the universe, the mystery of creation, and the creator Himself. However, while humanity longs to know the deeper truths of our existence, we also long to know ourselves. We want to know who we are and why we exist, and while a longing to know the deep truths of existence and God may seem incompatible with a longing to know ourselves, the two are inextricably linked.

In Rooted: A Study Of Who God Is And Who We Are In Him, Garrett Crawford makes the case that our study of the God of the Bible brings us to a profound appreciation and awe of the Trinitarian Godhead, while also providing an acute understanding of the human existence. Crawford structures his study of God and humanity through the image of a tree, thus separating the book into four parts: The Roots, The Trunk, The Vine, and The Branches. For humanity to know ourselves, we must first know the God we are rooted in. Therefore, in studying the roots of our existence (Theology Proper), how these roots are made known to us and extend into the trunk of the tree (the Doctrine of Revelation) spreading upward into the vine (Christology), we can then know who we are, who God intends for us to be, and the fruit He intends for us to produce in Him (Theological Anthropology). Thus, this work briefly expounds upon the disciplines of Theology Proper, the Doctrine of Revelation, Christology, and Theological Anthropology to accomplish the goal of studying who God is so that we might know who we are in Him.
