Who could imagine that the mysterious fire that ravaged a building in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York, and incinerated a married couple, could have its origin in the backwater of Guyana, some twenty- five years prior?

When Kunal, the son of the couple who perished in the fire, leaves for Guyana to bury the ashes of his father beside his beloved river, he discovers his father's dark and hidden past. Not only that, but the secret that perished with his parents was also inextricably linked to the parents of his girlfriend. In learning of his parents' existence in the backwater, from the many colorful characters he encounters, Kunal stumbles upon clues that could possibly lead to the identity of the arsonist who caused the death of his parents. Endeavoring to unearth evidence to assist the hapless police in New York City, Kunal participates in a thrilling and lethal manhunt, down a treacherous river cutting through the Guyanese jungle to the badlands of Venezuela.
