Survivors of the fall of Caelin cling to life as they wait out the darkness. Horsham's minions are closing in, making it dangerous to forage for precious supplies. Rem has become a reluctant leader and Ahlyha has left them to find help. Will blind prejudice keep the human population from accepting the help they so desperately need? A secret revealed has a heavy cost to all and a new leader must step up to save what is left of their humanity.

The search for Oesyth continues as the Sisters of West Sirron attempt to pick up the pieces of their shattered city. The mages must gain back control of their warring people and gather their scattered armies to face Horsham.

Neximus is uncompromising in his quest to find Lestadt. Lines between right and wrong, good and evil become all too easily blurred. Raemil leans on Neximus' strength while she navigates the limits of her power but struggles to accept and fully trust his motives as she witnesses what he is capable of when pushed.
