Practice to Mastery: AP® European History Practice Exams contains twelve complete, full-length practice examinations for the AP® European History Exam, 720 questions in all: 660 multiple choice, 36 short answer, 12 document-based questions, and 12 long essays. Each examination follows the published structure of the exam, so every sitting is a true rehearsal for test day.
Section I-A of every examination has 55 multiple-choice questions in sets of three or four, each set built on a single source: a primary document, a historian's interpretation, a table, a graph, a map, or a description of a work of art. Section I-B has three short-answer questions, one on a secondary source, one on a primary source, and one on a non-text source. Section II has a document-based question with seven documents and one long-essay question. Time limits and section weights are printed at the start of every examination.
Across the twelve examinations, every unit of the College Board's Course and Exam Description appears in every multiple-choice section, from the Renaissance and the age of exploration to the European Union and the twenty-first century. The document-based questions range across all three period bands, and the long essays rotate through comparison, causation, and continuity and change.
Every examination ends with a complete answer key and a detailed explanation for each multiple-choice question, tagged by unit, theme, and historical thinking skill, so students can see which parts of the course need more work. Each short-answer question, document-based question, and long essay has a point-by-point scoring guide showing what earns credit for thesis, contextualization, evidence, analysis and reasoning, and complex understanding, with examples. A score-estimate table converts raw results into an estimated AP® score.
No question or source is repeated from one examination to another, and none appears in the companion volume, Practice to Mastery: AP® European History Workbook.
Primary sources are real public-domain documents, quoted from public-domain translations or translated anew, and every source carries a citation. Secondary passages are original interpretations written for this book. All figures were drawn for the book and are designed to be read in black and white.
Use the examinations one at a time across the final months of the course: take each under timed conditions, score it with the guides, study the explanations, and watch the results improve from the first examination to the twelfth.
