I survived my first murder investigation at Spellslingers Academy.

Turns out, that was the easy part.

Now I'm trying to blend in, master basic magic, and train to become a warden for the Agency of Magical Forces. Simple goals-except for the massive secret I'm hiding: my father is an evil sorcerer with a body count that would make serial killers jealous.

Not exactly resume material.

I still can't tell a rune from a rock, but I'm making progress. My friends have my back, Gray (the devastatingly sexy vampire) keeps finding excuses to be near me, and I'm almost starting to feel like I belong here.

Then I find a body in the river.

Here we go again.

This victim is different-more brutal, more calculated, and the killer left a message only I can understand. The academy council needs answers, which means I'm back to playing detective. The problem? Solving this case requires magic I've never attempted, spells that push me closer to the darkness I've spent my whole life running from.

Every incantation I cast, every power I unleash-I'm terrified I'll become exactly like my father.
