Matt Richardson, a college professor, is in over his head. His gambling habit forced his wife to leave him, and now he owes money to some extremely dangerous people-money he doesn't have. He has one week to pay it and if he can't, he will likely be killed. Complicating matters is his new student, Olivia Powell. Despite their age difference, Matt is attracted to her. She is beautiful and smart, and the two form a connection that goes beyond the normal teacher-student relationship. Matt knows entering the relationship isn't wise, but he is despondent, and he uses it as a crutch to escape his harrowing reality. He learns, however, things are not always as they seem and as his life spirals out of control, he is forced to confront the harsh reality of what it means to protect Olivia, himself, and to cover up his mistakes.
