The year is 1825. Their journey becomes a deadly game of cat and mouse. After a fierce skirmish with Stark's scouts, they seek aid from the Choctaw, who, though mourning their great chief Pushmataha, provide a guide, Tobuck. He leads them to Stark's hidden stronghold at the Weeping Bluffs. This new quest leads them into the vast, arid plains ruled by the formidable Comanche. Guided by the cynical but knowledgeable trapper Coyote Jack Tobin, they make a tense approach to the encampment of the great chief Ten Bears. After a delicate parley, facilitated by the captive interpreter Isabel "Chispita" Ramirez, Ten Bears grants Ethan permission to ascend the sacred Sky Altar. Atop the windswept mesa, Ethan, Rourke, and Anawa, under Comanche escort, discover an ancient Solakari celestial device.
