Memoirs of Madame De Pompadour

"Memoirs of Madame De Pompadour" offers an intimate and revelatory look into the life of Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, the Marquise de Pompadour, and her influential role within the court of King Louis XV. Written by Madame Du Hausset, the Marquise's lady-in-waiting, this account provides a rare, firsthand perspective on the inner workings of Versailles during the mid-18th century.

The narrative traverses the complexities of royal favor, the intricacies of diplomatic maneuvering, and the personal challenges faced by one of history's most powerful women. Readers are granted a behind-the-scenes view of the King's private life, his shifting moods, and the various figures who vied for power and influence at court. Beyond the scandals and social dynamics, the work highlights Pompadour's significant impact on the arts, philosophy, and politics of the Enlightenment era.
