The work covers the properties of knot diagrams, introduces some polynomials associated to isotopy classes of knots and the formally defines a knot from the topological point of view. Finally, the Seifert surface associated with a knot is defined. In the Appendix, some ruled surfaces constructed on torus knots are shown.
