Poland wasn't just the first country to be attacked by Germans in World War II. Poland experienced the war's first aerial bombardment of the city with the use of dive bombers and the war's first mass executions of civilians.
Germans started killing the civilian population of Poland as soon as they occupied the country. One of the biggest German atrocities committed in the initial phase of the War was perpetrated on the territory of the pre-war Voivodeship of Pomerania. Piaśnica is one of those places. Towards the end of the war, during the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, Germans committed a seven-day-long systematic killing of Wola's district population, correctly nick-named 'Slaughter of Wola.' In seven days, they killed almost 50,000 Poles out of almost 200,000 civilians killed in the entire city.
