Institutional Entropy and the Thermodynamics of Governance A Framework for Diagnosing Disorder and Engineering Efficiency

What if governance could be understood not merely through policies and outcomes, but through the entropy it generates? In Institutional Entropy and the Thermodynamics of Governance, economist Temesgen Muleta-Erena offers a bold interdisciplinary framework that fuses thermodynamics, systems theory, and institutional analysis to expose the hidden mechanics of inefficiency and decline.

Challenging conventional governance models, this work presents entropy not just as a metaphor but as a measurable diagnostic lens. Institutions, like physical systems, accumulate disorder, resist reform, and dissipate energy. This book empowers readers to identify these systemic leaks and design governance structures that are resilient, transparent, and optimized for performance.

Inside, you'll find:

• Tools for quantifying institutional entropy across sectors
• Principles for building low-entropy governance systems rooted in meritocracy
• Dynamic simulations and entropy-adjusted economic models for reform strategy
• Applications ranging from energy pricing to sports governance in Ethiopia

Temesgen Muleta-Erena holds a PhD in Economics from the University of West London and an MA in Economics from the University of East Anglia. He has authored numerous scholarly articles on governance and economic development, and has co-authored influential works on institutional reform. His work bridges conceptual rigor with real-world impact, offering actionable insights for economists, policymakers, and systems designers.

Looking forward, Temesgen is expanding his entropy framework into new intellectual terrain - including pioneering models of GDP decomposition and exploring energy systems beyond the sun.

This is not just a book. It is a strategic lens, a systems-thinking manifesto, and a practical guide for those committed to transforming institutional performance. Compact, original, and elegantly designed, Institutional Entropy and the Thermodynamics of Governance invites the reader to see institutions as dynamic systems - and to reimagine governance from molecular mechanics to macroeconomic reform.
