C. Olivia Spence-Howard was raised in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and received her education in a one-room school. She pursued her undergraduate degree from Hampton Institute and a graduate degree from Hampton University. Olivia enjoys traveling, gardening, and spending time with family and friends, as well as participating in community events and historical projects. She has been involved with the historical 1619 project, Aberdeen Garden community, First Baptist Church of Hampton, and The Great Dismal Swamp history.
