In seiner Erzählung Hinter Klostermauern lässt Ernst Salzmann das Leben eines jungen Mädchens im Kloster Grafenheim im 18. Jahrhundert Revue passieren. Anhand der Geschichte der jungen Elisabeth verdeutlicht Salzmann das damalige Leben im Kloster, die Konflikte und Schwierigkeiten, aber auch die Möglichkeiten und Freiheiten, die sich für Mädchen und Frauen in Klosterleben boten. Mit diesem Werk gibt Salzmann ein eindrucksvolles Zeit- und Sittenbild des 18. Jahrhunderts wieder.
