Christmas, the season of breathtaking beauty, where the world seems to sparkle and shine with a special kind of magic. Houses are illuminated with holiday lights, Christmas trees decorated with shimmering ornaments, and there is an unspoken warmth in the air. It is a time for families to gather and celebrate the joys of the season - presents, laughter, food, and children anticipating the arrival of their gifts from Santa Claus.

For most people, the Christmas holiday is a celebration of kindness and love, a way for loved ones to express their generosity over a shared meal. After all, Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus and a reminder that, despite all the chaos in the world, peace, hope, and love still exist. However, sometimes darkness can lurk in the brightest of seasons, casting a shadow over the joy of the holiday.

Ronald Gene Simmons, an ex-staff sergeant, and a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, would viciously murder fourteen members of his own family and two co-workers during the week of Christmas 1987. Investigators would find twelve bodies, several in a deep cesspit, and one near the Christmas tree, next to neatly wrapped gifts, covered with a beautiful tablecloth.

Christmas Eve 2008, the Ortega family had started their Christmas festivities at their home in Covina, California when there was a knock at the door. Eight-year-old Katrina Yuzefpolsky opened the door and was excited when she discovered that Santa Claus had arrived.

Bruce Jeffrey Pardo had disguised himself as the jolly man in the red suit and gone to his estranged ex-wife's family gathering to crash the party. Bruce was prepared and came equipped with an arsenal of guns and fuel to burn the house to the ground. Ultimately, Bruce murdered nine members of the Ortega family before turning the gun on himself. Investigators believed that Bruce's martial problems with Sylvia Ortega Pardo had been a motive for the murders.

On December 25, 1929, Charles "Charlie" Lawson of Germantown, North Carolina brutally murdered his wife, Fannie, and six of their seven children. Their only surviving son, nineteen-year-old Arthur, would discover his family members after returning to the farm after running an errand. Fannie, Marie, Carrie, Maybell, James, Raymond, and Mary Lou were found with their arms crossed and rocks beneath their heads. Charlie would be found behind the family home deceased after a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the heart.

Elderly couple, Ed and Minnie Maurin, lived on a 120-acre Christmas tree farm in a secluded area in Lewis County, Washington. On December 19, 1985, the couple had planned to host their annual Christmas dinner potluck, but as the guests arrived, they found that no one was home to answer the door. The couple's car was also not in the driveway. It was odd for the couple to host an event and then completely blow it off.

On December 23, 1974, three girls, seventeen-year-old Mary Rachel Trlica, fourteen-year-old Lisa Renee Wilson, and nine-year-old Julie Ann Moseley went to the mall in Fort Worth, Texas for a little last minute Christmas shopping. When they failed to return home later that evening, their parents decided to search the mall parking lot for Rachel's 1972 Oldsmobile 98.
